1992
November: Jeffrey Lynch is elected as the 42nd President of the United States, defeating incumbent George Bush. Jeffrey, a Democrat from Nebraska, is a successful economist and expert on foreign policy, but a womanizing philanderer.

1996
November: Jeffrey Lynch is reelected as President of the United States. His re-election campaign is hampered by calls for impeachment over his affairs, but he proves popular enough to win the election by a hair.

1999
A 3-month truckers' strike causes food riots in New York.

A Seretech truck hauling infectious medical wastes on Staten Island, is attacked by a mob in the mistaken belief that it carries food. Seretech security forces use lethal force to protect it. 20 Seretech employees and 200 rioters are killed.

The Supreme Court’s Seretech Decision upholds Seretech's actions as responsible for saving thousands of lives, rather than costing hundreds. This decision is protested in the Oval Office, and publicly spoken out against, but the Seretech decision still establishes a legal precedent.

An eco-terrorist group, TerraFirst! attacks a Shiawase nuclear power plant. Shiawase repels the attack, but uses the incident to convince the Supreme Court to grant international corporations extraterritoriality, A pro-Big Business President and Congress levy additional pressure to ensure the outcome. The decision grants large corporations extraterritoriality on their property, and expands on their rights to defend that property.

September 11, 2001 - terrorists attack the World Trade Center. Martin Hunt's reaction - to go into hiding for three days - paralyzes and outrages America. Upon emerging, from hiding, Martin talks tough and declares war on terror, promising retaliation. He loses support quickly - the nations he declares responsible for the attacks provide public evidence refuting themselves, and Iraq publicly opens its borders to allow UN agents to search for WMDs, and chemical weapons. before the inspection is complete, Martin Hunt declares war anyway, but the invasion is forestalled by a coalition of allied powers. Martin Hunt backs off, but his remaining three years as President prove impotent.

2004

Libya attacks Israel with chemical weapons.

Nuclear meltdown at Dungeness in Kent (England) creates a localized irradiated zone.

November: Philip Bester is elected as the 44rd President of the United States. Bester is a former four star General, elected in the wake of Hunt's mishandling of the post-911 crisis. A staunch military man, he vows to find the men responsible for 9/11. Unfortunately, his knowledge of economics is atrocious. He passes a budget which increases military spending by forty percent, without additional taxes or budget cuts. He also denies aid to Israel, out of fear that his own presidential mandate to hunt down terrorist groups iwll be compromised with Libya as an enemy.

2005

Israel retaliates against Libya with nuclear weapons. (This ends the war quickly, but turns every power in the Middle East even MORE hostile against Israel. If that is possible.)

A major earthquake hits New York City on 12 August, killing 200,000 and causing 200 billion in damage. It will take 40 years to rebuild. Bester's attempts to unt down terrorists in the Middle East are forestalled by immediate need for aid in New York. He keeps token forces searching for 'those responsible,' but returns the majority of committed troops to American soil to assist New York post earthquake.

2008

November: Jesse Garrety is elected as the 45th President of the United States. William Jarman is his Vice-President. Garrety is a former CEO, a businessman who received the office after stirring up fears about 'imminent financial collapse.' He also publicized Bester's numerous fiscal failings, and preyed on fears of lost homes, lost jobs, and economic collapse. Garrety received a record amount of campaign contributions, and his election campaign was estimated at nearly two billion dollars in total costs.
